Baja Cantina: Our Story
For over 45 years, Baja has been serving authentic Mexican food and drinks in Marina Del Rey. Our story is filled with colorful characters, community love, and constant celebration.
Baja opened its doors in September 1975 in a building that was originally built in the 1940s as apartments to house the hard-working crews operating oil wells in the area. The building remained residential until the early 1960s, when it gradually transformed into a hub for several eclectic local businesses.
Before it became the Mexican Restaurant we all know and love today, Baja’s location served as a popular local hobby store & flower shop. In the early 1990s, Baja expanded further by absorbing the old location of the Brown Bagger, a beloved local breakfast and lunch spot.
Today, we are honored to continue serving Marina del Rey, Venice Beach, and the wider Los Angeles community. We have spent decades making history in this beautiful seaside location, and we look forward to spending decades more serving food and drinks made with passion, tradition, and love.
